Yellow Lamplight was started in 2008 in Brooklyn, as an outlet for Dan’s musical ideas. Influenced by the indie-rock canon and wordy twee, a slew of demos followed. The lyrics had a notebook-like endearingness. The recordings attempted a variety of textures, influenced by artists like Beirut, The Microphones, and Why?

Going further in the direction of acoustic songs with electronic flourishes, a first EP, ‘Come Apart, Go Together’, followed in 2010. It dealt with themes of love and disconnect. More demos followed the EP and, in 2012 a second EP, ‘Hindsight’ was completed. ‘Hindsight’ built upon the previous themes, and incorporated electric guitars and post-punk.

In 2023, Dan decided to compile both of the Yellow Lamplight EPs into this collection, which now resides on Bandcamp as one album, for anyone who might find it. A new cover art was created to embrace the themes of both EPs. Thus, 'The First Two EPs' creates a sense of resolution for Yellow Lamplight, as it offers the work to a new audience.

In 2013, Dan shifted gears from Yellow Lamplight to his new band, Diesel Seagulls.
